Is your worker really a contractor?

Five quick questions, straight from the same screening tool Greene Ops Group uses in real NSC and HR compliance work. Answer honestly for one worker and see how the relationship actually reads, not just what the contract says.

Alberta courts, Employment Standards, WCB, and the CRA all look past the paperwork to the real working relationship. This is a screening aid, not a legal opinion. See the sources below.

Why this tool exists

Driver Inc. is under real pressure right now

Driver Inc. is when a trucking company pays a driver through the driver's own numbered company instead of payroll, skipping income tax, CPP, and EI. If the driver doesn't own the truck and works under the company's schedule and rules, that's an employee, not a contractor, no matter what the paperwork says.

Enforcement is picking up. In December 2025, the CRA removed a penalty exemption for unreported contractor payments and ran inspection blitzes in Ontario, and labour inspectors now share data with CRA auditors. A federal-provincial plan on this is due back in fall 2026. Alberta carriers aren't exempt.
